Sunday, Monday & the very early hours of Tuesday

Sunday morning started with a walk up (to) town for a look around, we called in at the tourist office to update the blog on their wifi, then meandered back home with the obligatory baguette in hand, so as to blend in with the locals. After morning coffee we decided to leave Gordes and trundle south and east for 16 miles through the beautiful villages of unpronounceable names to our overnight stop at Lacoste. It was getting on a bit so we set up base camp in the local aire and struck out first thing Monday morning on the steep climb to explore the beautiful village. It was bank holiday here as well, but we beat the crowds and were on the road south well before most locals were out of bed.

A few idyllic villages bagged before we headed north and were greeted with beautiful views of the snowy capped Alps. After 80 miles and a bit of walking we were pleased to arrive mid afternoon for our overnight stay at Sisteron. Feet up with a cuppa fitted the bill perfectly but we came here for one reason, and that was to see the amazing rock structure. A decent photo of it is only possible from the Citadel, in itself is a very impressive castle! It commands a stunning position above the valley as you will see from the photographs. So after the cuppa and with the sun in just the right position it was off to explore it and get some decent shots for you guys.

We were having a very peaceful night’s sleep up by the castle when we, along with everybody else in the town and probably a few miles beyond, were rudely awoken by what seemed to be an air-raid siren, at 1.30am! It went on for about 10 minutes and in the morning we were no wiser as the girl in the tourist office didn’t know what it was! Maybe we’d had too much wine, not this time.
