What a difference a few days make! From hitting our lowest point of the trip at Lucca, actually that was probably the lowest point since we've been doing this campervan lark, we have had a few days which have restored our enjoyment of what we are doing.
Our last aire at Volterra was just what we needed and worth the 15€ for two nights, all services 'on tap' and right by the beautiful medieval town, a car race thrown in and two peaceful nights sleep was just what we needed.
Our present aire is also a cracker, not just because it's free, although that does help, with all services including electricity 'on the house', but we also have a great view across rolling green fields to the typical Tuscan sight of a line of cypress trees. The lovely weather is also helping with a pleasant breeze taking the edge off what would otherwise be a baking sun.
Tuesday morning we racked up 22 miles on the bikes before coffee. Montepulciano is a place you may have heard of due to your interest in wine but when cycling it is more important to take account of any town name which starts with the letters M O N T E, not for the first time have we thought that one of our better decisions in life was to buy bikes with motors! The route there in the glorious sun riding past vineyards, cypress trees & idyllic country houses reminded us, if we needed it, why we came to Tuscany. Yet another lovely medieval hilltop town, returning home for late morning coffee, then lunch of pate, bread & wine, a bit of relaxing before I set to on the rather large task of giving Harry his bimonthly wash.
Feeling the heat of the sun on the back of our chairs as we take in the lovely view during our pre dinner drinks was rather nice but poor Rachel, although the quality of the aire is superb, the quality if the air is not so! It's full of pollen and the hay fever has started with a vengeance, but nothing a Piriton and a couple of glasses of wine won't put right!
